Short Newsletter

This newsletter will be quite short this month. I have a very busy schedule the last couple weeks with a piano exam, finishing home school for the year, getting next years home school ready, Vegan Vegetarian Cooking School, and church duties. Plus we are trying to finish renovating the house so we can sell and build a smaller, more efficient home.

In all this I have come to realize without divine power even the simplest tasks are overwhelming. As I was weeding the raspberries this May, I was not feeling well. Very weak and tired. We were almost to the end of the row so I prayed for strength to finish that row and God Blessed! It was a real joy that God would help in such a small thing.

A week or so later I was listening to the Pioneer stories and heard the story of James White. He was working hard at manual haying for money they needed for a trip to NY. He was not well and would have to pray for strength often. Whenever he felt he couldn't go on, he would fall on his knees and pray for more strength. God Blessed and he finished the field.

It impressed me God would give me strength for such as little task, as He would for something so important as a poor family trying to spread the gospel message. All I was doing was weeding a few raspberries, but God, the God of the universe, helped me finish a small row of weeds. What an amazing God we serve!

Staying motivated to be active and exercise is very important for our health. Don't forget to read the health information section of this newsletter.

Exercise

The importance of exercise can not be overlooked. In fact, according to many studies, being active is probably the most important aspect of health when it comes to longevity. You can be active without formal exercise, but most of us are not. Even modern day farmers use machines for much of their work.

It takes motivation to stay on an exercise program. And getting on one is the hardest part. Once you've been exercising it is easier to stay on the program than to restart it. I started training for a triathlon early this spring and did pretty good until one thing, then another came up to interrupt the cycle. Doubts, sickness, lack of social support, all broke the routine and I succumbed. Disappointed, it was very hard to get back into a regular workout, so I needed new motivation. I joined a 10km walkathon to raise money for children's hospitals. I am very excited about this goal, and a friend has agreed to join me. We did an easy 8 to 11km walk a couple weeks ago, and it was enjoyable. I encourage you to find whatever motivation it takes for you to get exercising.

Portraiture

The essence of photography is the portrait. Capturing the personality of friends and family is what photographs are all about. Discovering the personality of your subject is important. There is no point in photographing a bird lover with a sports theme just because the colors look right or you have a great new idea. Friends who are outgoing should be photographed with that in mind. Find ways for your subject to express themselves.

In this issue I am simply going to give you a few tips on the fundamentals or technical aspects of taking a good picture of someone - the portrait. To finish reading this article, click here.
