The Root Cause of Stress
A dear friend of mine did a talk on stress recently. She said all stress in her life was the direct result of not trusting fully in Jesus. God can and will take care of all your needs, troubles, and worries. It got me to thinking, what is the root cause of stress in my life? For me it is feeling not good enough, not doing enough, failing. So what is the root cause of your stress?
Finances you say. Ah, money the elusive element we all work for. Many people feel stressed because of their lack of money or their decisions related to money. But money itself is not a cause of stress. It may be a stressor, or a factor, but is of itself is not a cause. It is your perception of your need of money. Granted you may have REAL bills, real debt, real problems related to money, but it is still how you view it that causes you stress. So, the way I see it, there several ways to view each circumstance in your life. And that view is what causes you stress, or frees you from it. It’s your view on life and circumstances that are the root cause of your stress, not the stressors themselves.
Negative Mental Views - ROOT causes of stress:
1. I am not good enough, I just can't make it work. I have to try harder.
2. It's not my fault, why does it have to happen to me. This doesn't happen to ....
3. Well, all things will pass, I'll just ride this out, let it pass too.
Wait a minute! Why is number 3 in the root causes of stress? Because if you don't pay your bills, the bill collector will not be happy and you will stress, or cause stress to others who have to deal with your inadequacies. We can't hide in the sand and wait for life to blow over.
Positive Mental Views - Stress Management:
1. With God all things are possible. God will see me through, and will give me the strength and wisdom I need to deal with this situation or He would NOT have allowed it to happen to me. I am able to do His bidding.
2. With God all things are possible. God will see me through, and will give me the strength and wisdom I need to deal with this situation or He would NOT have allowed it to happen to me. I am able to do His bidding.
3. With God all things are possible. God will see me through, and will give me the strength and wisdom I need to deal with this situation or He would NOT have allowed it to happen to me. I am able to do His bidding.
Ok, you get the point. There is only one positive way to deal with stress. While there are many root causes, there is only one solution. Work together with God. That could be a simple as waiting on the Lord or as complex as searching for answers and pleading for wisdom. It is your attitude that makes all the difference.
